Rasheed Interview
This is what Rasheed Wallace had to say during the All-Star weekend in Washington DC (February 9-11). Interview thanks to NBA.com.
Is it an honor to be here?
I see it more as a personal accolade -- and I'm not about personal accolades -- I'm about team accolades. I don't care if it's 50 or 75 All-Star appearances; that can't beat a championship ring.
Talk about getting the team healthy for the second half of the season.
We have that college season left, about 30 or 32 games. We're going to have play with the guys we got. My wrist is still hurting me and my hip, but it's stuff that you have to play through. Make the sacrifices now to get that championship.
How does it feel to be back in Washington, D.C.?
It's pretty cool, there's nothing too special about it. I'm only here for the weekend and for the one game. I still have some friends down here that I communicate with, and I'm trying to make the best of it.
Do you ever think what could have been if you and Chris Webber were still here?
No, honestly I don't think about it until one of you guys bring it up or a fan brings it up. I'm living in the present and the future.
Are you and Chris Webber still friends?
Definitely. Chris and I are still friends, and we'll always going to be friends. We just sit back and when people see us together, they're like, "You should have stayed together" and we're like, "It wasn't our choice to leave."
Talk about guarding Webber.
You have to look at it all the way around. He can shoot from the outside and he can post up. It's more like a mirror image.
Talk about your role as the go-to guy of the Blazers.
I don't see myself as the go-to guy because we have tremendous talent on that team -- Damon [Stoudamire], Smitty [Steve Smith], Bonzi [Wells], Pipp [Scottie Pippen]. I think anyone of those guys can be a go-to guy, and it just depends on who is hot that night. My thing is keep feeding them. If Smitty is hot, keep feeding him. I don't see myself as a go-to guy.
Most of the players on the team acknowledge you as the go-to guy.
Like I said, I see it more as whoever has the hot hand that night. That's what I go off of. Even if there's a play for me and I feel as though one of my teammates has a mismatch or one of my teammates is hot, I'm going to disrupt the play and go with the hot hand. It's all about getting that bucket.
